Natasha Te Rupe Wilson (Te Arawa, Ngā Puhi), soprano, has a Bachelor of Music, (Honours, first-class), majoring in classical vocal performance, from the University of Auckland. Natasha completed her Post-Graduate Diploma in Vocal Studies, at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, in 2019, under the tutelage of César Ulloa. Natasha was also a member of the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation’s mentoring programme in 2016, and has been generously supported by the foundation ever since.
From 2017 to 2019, Natasha saw success in various regional competitions in New Zealand. These include first place in regional aria competitions, as well as the McCormick Aria award. Natasha was also a semi-finalist in both the IFAC HANDA Australian Singing Competition, in 2017, and the Lexus Song Quest, in 2018. In 2021, Natasha was the grateful recipient of the prestigious Dame Malvina Major Award, to help support her career internationally.
Natasha made her professional debut with New Zealand Opera, and was a Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist with the company in 2018. Natasha subsequently debuted the roles of Giannetta, in Donizetti’s, ‘L’elisir d’amore’, as well as Paquette, in Bernstein’s, ‘Candide’, on the New Zealand Opera’s main-stage, whilst covering the roles of Adina and Cunegonde.
From 2019 to 2020, Natasha was based in Pittsburgh, PA, as a 2019/20 Resident Artist with Pittsburgh Opera. Natasha made her United States, mainstage debut, with the company, as Rosalba, in their 2019 production of Catan’s, ‘Florencia en el Amazonas’. Natasha also played the role of Morgana, in the company’s 2020 production of Handel’s, ‘Alcina’.
In 2021, Natasha performed throughout New Zealand, performing the role of Lisa, for Days Bay Opera’s ‘La Sonnambula’, and Purea, in the world premiere of Tim Finn’s, ‘Ihitai ‘Avei’a’, with New Zealand Opera.
Natasha was Zerlina, in Wellington Opera’s production of Mozart’s, ‘Don Giovanni’, as well as Marzelline, in the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s concert performance of Beethoven’s, ‘Fidelio’.
In 2022, Natasha made her European debut, with Staatsoper Stuttgart, as First Wood-Nymph, in their new production of Dvorak’s, ‘Rusalka’. In 2022/23, Natasha was a member of Staatsoper Stuttgart‘s international opernstudio. 2022/23 with Staatsoper Stuttgart saw Natasha perform Barbarina, in ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’, Frau Silberklang in ‘Der Schauspieldirektor’, Giannetta in ‘L’elisir d’amore’, Clorinda in ‘La Cenerentola’, and Frasquita in ‘Carmen’. Natasha also returned to the USA, to perform the role of Susanna, in Pittsburgh Opera’s ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’.
Natasha begins the 2023/24 season as a new member of the Staatsoper Stuttgart Ensemble.
