Natasha Te Rupe Wilson (Te Arawa, Ngā Puhi), soprano, holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours, First Class) in Classical Vocal Performance from the University of Auckland, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Vocal Studies from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (2019), where she studied under César Ulloa. She was a member of the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation’s mentoring programme in 2016 and has been generously supported by the Foundation ever since.
From 2017 to 2019, Natasha achieved success in numerous regional competitions in New Zealand, including several first prizes in aria competitions and the McCormick Aria Award. She was a semi-finalist in both the IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition (2017) and the Lexus Song Quest (2018). In 2021, she received the prestigious Dame Malvina Major Award in recognition of her outstanding artistry and to support her developing international career.
Natasha made her professional debut with New Zealand Opera, where she was a Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist in 2018. She went on to perform Giannetta in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and Paquette in Bernstein’s Candide on the company’s main stage, while covering the roles of Adina and Cunegonde.
From 2019 to 2020, Natasha was based in the United States as a Resident Artist with Pittsburgh Opera, making her American mainstage debut as Rosalba in Catan’s Florencia en el Amazonas, followed by Morgana in Handel’s Alcina.
In 2021, she returned to New Zealand to perform Lisa in Days Bay Opera’s La Sonnambula, Purea in the world premiere of Tim Finn’s Ihitai ‘Avei’a with New Zealand Opera, Zerlina in Wellington Opera’s Don Giovanni, and Marzelline in the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s concert performance of Fidelio.
Natasha made her European debut in 2022 with Staatsoper Stuttgart as the First Wood Nymph in Dvořák’s Rusalka. She subsequently joined the Staatsoper Stuttgart Opernstudio (2022/23), where she performed Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro), Frau Silberklang (Der Schauspieldirektor), Giannetta (L’elisir d’amore), Clorinda (La Cenerentola), and Frasquita (Carmen). She also returned to the United States to sing Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with Pittsburgh Opera.
Since the 2023/24 season, Natasha has been a member of the Staatsoper Stuttgart ensemble, where she has sung roles including Nannetta in Falstaff, Pamina in Barrie Kosky’s celebrated production of Die Zauberflöte, Ännchen in Der Freischütz, and Zaide in Mozart’s Zaide.
The 2025/26 season sees Natasha perform Zerlina, Micaëla, and Pamina at Staatsoper Stuttgart. She also makes her French debut with Opéra de Lille as Isis in Denisov’s L’Écume des jours, returning later in the season to sing Pamina with the company.
